Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I need to convert WebP to JPG?
WebP is a modern format used by websites and web browsers, but many desktop applications, printers, and email clients only support JPG. If you saved a photo from a website and find it opens as a grey box in Microsoft Word or will not upload to a print service, converting it to JPG fixes the problem.
Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
Yes — JPG is a lossy format. However at quality 90+ the difference is usually invisible. If the original WebP was lossless, converting to JPG at quality 90 produces a near-identical visual result in a smaller file. If the original WebP was already lossy, there is a small additional quality loss from re-encoding.
Can WebP have transparency?
Yes, WebP supports an alpha channel. JPG does not — any transparent pixels will be filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
