Profile Photo Maker — Crop to Circle
Crop any photo to a perfect circle for Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and more. Saves as PNG with transparent background. No upload, no sign-up.
Your files never leave your device. All processing happens in your browser.
How to Make a Circular Profile Photo
- Choose a platform or size. Pick a preset button — X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or others — and the output size is set automatically to that platform's recommended stored resolution. Or select Custom… and enter any pixel size.
- Add your photo. Drag a file onto the upload area or click to browse. Your photo is read directly in the browser — nothing is sent anywhere.
- Review the circular preview. The tool finds the largest square at the centre of your photo and clips a perfect circle from it. The live preview shows exactly what you will get.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP. PNG (the default) keeps the area outside the circle fully transparent — ideal for uploading to any platform. JPG and WebP fill the corners white, which is fine if your background is always white.
- Download. Click Download to save the file. The name includes the pixel size so it is easy to find later, e.g.

Profile Photo Sizes by Platform
Last verified: June 2026.
| Platform | Stored size | Displayed at | Crop shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| X / Twitter | 400 × 400 | 200 × 200 | Circle |
| 320 × 320 | 110 × 110 | Circle | |
| 360 × 360 | 170 × 170 | Circle | |
| 400 × 400 | 200 × 200 | Circle | |
| YouTube | 800 × 800 | 98 × 98 | Circle |
| TikTok | 200 × 200 | 100 × 100 | Circle |
| Discord | 512 × 512 | 32–80 px | Circle |
| GitHub | 500 × 500 | 20–96 px | Circle |
| Slack | 512 × 512 | 36–72 px | Circle / Square |
Tip: A single 400 × 400 px PNG covers most platforms. Upload 800 px for YouTube, since Google uses that photo across Gmail, Maps, and other services.
PNG vs JPG for Profile Photos
PNG supports transparency — the pixels outside the circle are saved as fully transparent, not as a colour. When the platform displays your photo against any background (white, dark, coloured), the edges blend perfectly.
JPG and WebP do not support transparency. This tool fills the area outside the circle with white. That works fine on platforms that display avatars on a white background, but will look like a white square when shown against a dark page or a coloured sidebar.
Recommendation: always use PNG for profile photos unless you have a specific reason to need a smaller file size and you know the background is always white.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The crop and export happen entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device — you can confirm this by opening your browser's Network panel: no upload request is made.
Why does the tool crop to a square first?
A circle fits inside a square. The tool finds the largest square at the centre of your photo, then clips a circle from it. This keeps your subject centred and avoids any stretching or distortion.
Should I save my profile photo as PNG or JPG?
PNG is the recommended choice. It preserves the transparent area outside the circle, so when you upload to a platform it blends cleanly with any background colour. JPG and WebP fill the corners with white, which is fine if the platform always displays a white background — but can look odd on dark-themed pages.
My profile photo looks blurry — what can I do?
Start with a photo that is at least as large as the output size. Upscaling a small image (e.g. 100 × 100 → 400 × 400) will always look soft because there is no extra detail to add. Use a higher-resolution source for a sharper result.
What is the best size for a profile photo?
Most platforms store at 400–512 px and display at 100–200 px. Uploading at 400 px covers almost every platform. For YouTube, upload at 800 px because Google also uses your YouTube profile photo for Gmail, Drive, and other services where it may be shown larger.
Can I use a PNG photo with a transparent background?
Yes. The tool reads the image including any existing transparency. The circular clip is applied on top, so a logo or illustration on a transparent background will result in a circular transparent PNG ready to upload.
